Superconducting Microelectronics at Scale: Foundry Enablement for the Next Era of Quantum and High-Performance Computing

Robert Wortman (SkyWater Technology)

Superconducting electronics promise orders-of-magnitude improvements in energy efficiency and computational speed, yet their impact has been constrained by limited access to scalable fabrication. SkyWater Technology, as a U.S.-based pure-play semiconductor foundry, has supported state-of-the-art innovation in superconducting circuits for more than a decade, providing critical process development and manufacturing expertise to our customers. This presentation will highlight SkyWater’s foundry capabilities, key milestones, and lessons learned in enabling superconducting integrated circuits. We will discuss process development, scaling considerations, and the unique requirements of superconducting IC manufacturing, offering a foundry-oriented perspective to complement device- and application-focused talks. In addition, SkyWater is working with customers to define the superconducting technology roadmap so that device and material innovations can be brought to production quickly, driving the continuous improvements in performance and integration of quantum and superconducting ICs.
